Pruning and Removing 'Unwanted' LeavesAs the plant grows taller and bushier during the vegetation stage many leaves and fan leaves will begin to receive less light and begin to die. The amount of energy that the plant has to disperse in order to try to revive the dying fan leaves is unnecessary in comparison to its overall growth. Therefore it is okay to remove the leaves that are beginning to die. The fan leaves that are primarily focused on the bottom of the plant naturally receive much less light than the leaves that are focused up top. This usually means that a grower will have to trim dying leaves from the bottom portion of the plant more frequently. However, from time to time some fan leaves that are on top will begin to wither and die away especially as the plant grows much taller.
Make sure that you have a pair of sharp scissors or hand held clippers before beginning to remove dying or unwanted leaves from the stock of the plant or the branches. The leaves that are dying will start to droop and turn yellow or brown in color. Take the scissor or clippers and cut the fan leave closest to its base at an angle so that too much energy from the plant isn’t dispersed for trying to grow it back. The same can be done for leaves that that you as the grower feel may be not needed or even may be blocking light for branches that may already be growing bud. |
