Flowering Light Cycles
After the recommended amount of time for the vegetation stage is finished or when the plants have begun to “auto-flower”is the right time to enter the plants into the ‘flowering stage.’ The flowering stage is an essential part of the growth of marijuana because it is during this stage that the bud begins to form. This is the most exciting and rewarding time for growers because they get to watch the bud grow before their eyes and eventually they get to sample their own product.
12 Hours on – 12 Hours Off
The most common light cycle for the flowering stage is the 12/12. This means for 12 hours the lights are on as well as for 12 hours the lights are off. This type of light cycle imitates the season of ‘fall’ and helps the plants begin to flower. Most flowering cycles last between 8 and 12 weeks unless the type of strain being grown has other recommendations. However, it is up to the grower to know when to identify when the flowering stage is complete which will be covered in lesson five of this book. It is also important to have a timer ready for this stage because it is almost impossible for any grower to be able to turn off and on the lights every 12 hours on time. Therefore the use of a timer will greatly benefit any grower.
